Overview
The Animal House Facility at Sandip Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a CPCSEA‑registered unit (Reg. No. 1858/PO/ReRcBiBt/S/2016/CCSEA) dedicated to ethical care, breeding, and use of small laboratory animals for education, research, and commercial projects. The facility supports work with Wistar rats and Swiss albino mice for pharmacology, toxicology, and drug discovery studies in compliance with CCSEA and IAEC guidelines.
Breeding and Trading
The facility is approved for research for education and commercial purposes, breeding for in‑house use, and breeding for the purpose of trade of rats and mice, with a sanctioned housing capacity of 100 rats and 100 mice. Trading of animals is restricted to CCSEA‑registered establishments with IAEC‑approved protocols, and all transactions are reported periodically to CCSEA as per Form‑E requirements.
Animal Procurement
External establishments can procure small laboratory animals against advance payment by submitting CCSEA registration details, IAEC approval, and an undertaking regarding approved animal numbers and housing conditions. Indenters must arrange CCSEA‑compliant transport, collect animals on working days between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and provide an acclimatization period of 7–15 days before experimentation at their facility.
Ethics and Governance
All scientific use of animals is reviewed and approved by the Institutional Animal Ethics Committee of SIPS, which includes scientists, a veterinarian, external experts, and socially aware representatives. Trained personnel follow Good Laboratory Practices, maintain detailed records, and ensure that animal welfare, refinement of procedures, and regulatory compliance remain central to all activities in the Animal House.
